I Made a Setup 100 Times Better Than BenQ’s

What’s up, devs?

Everything is crazy expensive these days, huh?

I usually code in the morning and study at night before bed.
At night, I keep it cozy with just a nightlight.
Oh, and I’ve never owned a proper desk light before. (Yeah, really!)

I checked out BenQ’s monitor lights, but… let’s be real.
I’m a student. I’m broke. That price tag is just not it.

The Problem

I also heard that waking up to an alarm sound is bad for you.
That got me thinking:
Why not find a setup that works as both a desk light and a wake-up light?

SwitchBot Smart LED + Light Arm

Let me just say it again: BenQ’s monitor lights are too expensive.
Sure, they’re probably great products, but I don’t want to gamble on cheap knock-offs either. I also hate wasting money.

Oh, and I wanted a proper light alarm too. You know, the kind that gradually lights up to wake you.
There are tons of light alarms on Amazon, but they all require manual time adjustments. It’s tedious, and if they stop working, it’s game over.

My Solution

Here’s the combo that solved it all for me:

Key Details

  • Make sure you get the right bulb size (E26 for this setup).
  • Check this out:

Light and Room Setup
Looks 🔥, right?

Why It Works

  1. Flexible and Adjustable
The stand’s clamp makes it super easy to set up and adjust.
    Brightness and color? Fully customizable.

  2. As a Wake-Up Light
It works perfectly as an alarm light. I’ve set it to gradually brighten over 15 minutes, starting 15 minutes before my Apple Watch alarm.
Why? Because waking up to sound is unnatural.

The Science Behind It

Humans are animals—no different from other creatures at the core.
When we wake up to sound, it’s like our body’s alarm system kicking in, telling us a predator is nearby. Your brain barely functions because it’s in survival mode.

Waking up to light, on the other hand, is like waking up to sunlight.
Your body naturally recognizes, “Oh, it’s morning,” and all your systems wake up gradually—stress-free.

Conclusion

For just ¥5,000, I created an incredible combo that works as both a wake-up light and a desk light.
This is next-level cost performance.

Plus, it works with Google Home, Siri, and other smart assistants (I forgot the rest, lol). Voice control? Perfect.

This little setup has totally elevated my mornings and nights. Best investment ever.
